Fireproof sealant is a polymer plastic material, so the evaluation of its fire rating is often carried out using the "Plastic Combustion Performance Test Method - Oxygen Index Method" (GB/T2406-93) and "Plastic Combustion Performance Test Method - Horizontal and Vertical Methods" (GB/T2408-1996).
The oxygen index refers to the minimum oxygen content required for a solid sample to maintain equilibrium combustion in a mixed flow of oxygen and ammonia under specified conditions, expressed as the volume percentage of oxygen. When using oxygen index (OI) evaluation, GB/T2406-93 should be used for sample testing to calculate and determine the oxygen index. The corresponding relationship between the oxygen index (OI) of materials and their flame retardancy is as follows: OI36 is highly flame retardant.
When evaluating using GB/T2408-1996, sealant is generally tested using the vertical method, and is classified into three levels from high to low according to the test effect: FV-0, FV-1, and FV-2.
